The Brazilian Democratic Labour Party, known in Portuguese as Partido Democrático Trabalhista (PDT), is a political entity in Brazil that has its roots deeply embedded in the labor movement and the legacy of Getúlio Vargas, a prominent 20th-century Brazilian leader. The PDT was officially founded in 1979 by Leonel Brizola, a key figure in Brazilian politics, who aimed to continue the laborist legacy of Vargas amidst the political reorganization that was happening during the process of re-democratization after the military dictatorship era in Brazil.
